The Art of AIDS Prevention

The Art of AIDS Prevention is a project conceived by Dr Paul Sendziuk of The University of Adelaide, Australia, and produced in collaboration with Visual AIDS. It investigates the way in which people living with HIV/AIDS, and the communities most affected by the disease, have been represented in the visual arts in Australia, South Africa and the United States of America. Through this website and a series of publications, oral histories, exhibitions and conferences, the project aims to raise awareness about the crucial role of artists in fighting AIDS.

More than 30 artists and arts professionals living in Australia, the United States and South Africa were interviewed for the project. Brief biographies, photographs and images of their work can be found on this website, as well as audio and complete transcripts of the interviews that were conducted by Paul Sendziuk between 2004 and 2008. This is the largest and most comprehensive repository of this kind of material in the world.
